NEWS

Assessing the quality of health research from an Aboriginal peoples perspective
In the past, there has been an unintentional oversight when it comes to recognising the importance of Aboriginal ways of knowing and values in primary health research. This oversight can have negative consequences, including limited acceptance of the research findings, smaller benefits to the community from the research, and could potentially harm Aboriginal communities. To address this, a specific tool called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Quality Appraisal Tool (QAT) was developed by Harfield et al. in 2020.

The QAT consists of 14 comprehensive questions designed to assess the quality of health research from an Aboriginal peoples perspective.

Download the quality appraisal tool and its companion document on the SAHMRI website or visit our Aboriginal Health subject guide for more useful resources.
