Rural and remote health resources

Rural Health Month is an annual celebration held every November, dedicated to rural health professionals and offers a month-long program, gathering hundreds of rural health professionals for learning, networking, and connecting.

Remote health atlas

This collection provides remote health resources for non-government health services and agencies, including clinical protocols, pharmacy guidelines, emergency kits and health forms.

The remote health atlas is available on NT Health Research and Publications Online.

 


 

Connect to language tools

CommDoc app

CommDoc provides audio translations of common terms in medical consultation in different Aboriginal languages spoken in the Northern Territory.

Yolnu Matha Health Dictionary
This multilingual dictionary contains clearly explained, basic information on anatomy, pathologies and procedures in Plain English, and the Yolŋu languages, Dhuwal, Dhuwala and Dhaŋu.

Case report: effects of environmental smoke exposure on respiratory conditions-a report of an Aboriginal man fire hunting for mud turtles in the Top End, Northern Territory of Australia

This report highlights the potential impact of non-tobacco environmental smoke exposure contributing to the causation and exacerbation of chronic respiratory conditions among Aboriginal Australians. Hence, further research is warranted to address mitigating strategies in this population.

The heart of the matter: a re-iteration of the role of the social determinants of health in addressing health inequity in Central Australia

This article argues that only by prioritising equity in these ‘social determinants’ and emphasising the importance of First Nations leadership in formulating and implementing solutions will health inequity be addressed.

Local research and resources for National Rural Health Month
November is National Rural Health Month. Here in the NT, our geographical remoteness and low population density means we know the challenges faced in delivering healthcare to those living in the bush.

Library Services actively collects journal articles, reports, and other publications authored by NT Health staff, and makes them available via NT Health Research and Publications Online (NTHRPO).

This position paper offers an international definition, describes the guiding principles of midwifery models of care and reviews the advantages of adopting these models of care.
